This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 16, 2007:
The thing I love most about Memphis is the small town feel in such a big city. We have a million people here (although that is rather small), but we are truly a community. We have pride for our city and work rigorously to continually improve it. I really feel like I belong here.

Being originally from Kentucky, I know what you're talking about. Live in New England now and really like it … winters and all!!

I want to experience a REAL winter myself. Not just bitter cold weather on Monday, spring on Tuesday, and summer on Wednesday.
Oh my! Dwon!
I will never, ever forget our first Christmas here! Ooohhh! “Magical” … just absolutely magical. There's no other word to describe it and that one is too lame. There's a lot about a New England winter to get frustrated about … the cold … the two-feet-at-a-time snows … but being here to celebrate Christmas is an experience every “Southerner” should have at least once during their lifetime.
Would highly, highly recommend scoping out something like a cozy B&B … maybe in Southern Vermont … or the mountains of New Hampshire … or up-state Connecticut … and flying all your family up here to celebrate Christmas together.
I can recommend one: The Common Man Inn in Plymouth New Hampshire. We've stayed there. It's not an old B&B, but would be excellent. Each room has a fireplace. In addition to regular rooms with queen beds … they also have “theme” rooms … and suites that'll sleep up to 10 easily.
Envision if you will … Soft Holiday music playing … sitting in front of the fireplace … watching the snow fall outside … lots of presents to open … laughter and joy …
To experience the snow @ Christmas-time, however, you may have to go further north, to Presque Isle or Bangor Maine, or even into Canada. This past season there was no snow on the ground. This past winter was late in getting here … and was somewhat abbreviated … and in many ways reminded me more of Kentucky weather.
Anyway, just a thought and a suggestion.
I might never experience that so I'll take joy in your joy
